Sony Corp.'s Sony Pictures, Time Warner's Warner Bros. and the Walt Disney Co. are in talks with cable operators to offer films for as much as $30 soon after their theatrical run and before their DVD release, according to Bloomberg.

The studios are talking with In Demand, a venture of cable giants Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications, about such a premium VOD service, In Demand CEO Bob Benya told Bloomberg.

Time Warner CFO John Martin had said last week that his company is exploring a $20-$30 premium VOD product and will likely experiment with it early next year.

Disney is similarly likely to test consumer interest in the first quarter using a single film, according to Bloomberg. It reported that Disney is also discussing streaming films on Internet-linked devices, such as Microsoft Corp.'s XBox console and Sony's PlayStation 3.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate last week said it is unlikely to help lead the premium VOD push.
