(NEWS CENTER) - A look at events coming up for the week of 12/06

MONDAY - Closing arguments are expected in the murder trial of William Hanaman. He's accused of stabbing to death his former girlfriend, Marion Shea, in Portland last year.
ALSO MONDAY - Counting resumes in the recount of the question of approving the Oxford Casino. The measure passed on November 2nd by a margin of less than 1% of the total vote. Since Thursday, volunteers have counted ballots from Scarborough, South Portland and Portland and so far the count has not changed. The goal on Monday is to count ballots from Bangor and Lewiston.
TUESDAY - The Maine Department of Transportation will post a weight limit on the Railroad Crossing Bridge in Falmouth. The RRX Bridge carries Routes 26 & 100 over the Presumpscot River. It was built in 1932 and crews are working on replacing it. The restriction will keep vehicles that weigh more than 22 tons from crossing. The DOT estimates that to be about 350 vehicles a day.
WEDNESDAY - Lawmakers will hear from businesses in Oxford County about taxes and regulations there. People will be able to bring their questions and concerns to their legislators with the expectation that those issues will be addressed in the 125th Legislature. If you plan on attending, you're expected to bring a specific idea for resolving your concerns. The forum will be held at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
THURSDAY - The Sudanese Community will be rallying in Portland's Monument Square to raise awareness about the struggles for independence in Southern Sudan. Southern Maine boasts the largest organized Sudanese refugee community in the United States. Attendees will be rallying in support and anticipation of a big vote on January 9th, when people in the southern part of the country and the Darfur region are expected to vote for independence from the North. The North, under the leadership of Omar al-Bashir, is accused of crimes against humanity for the treatment and mass murders of people in Darfur. The rally runs from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The rally is being put on by the Sudanese Community Association of Maine and the Fur Cultural Revival.
FRIDAY & SATURDAY - You can help a local film-making team celebrate their second year of making movies in Maine. [dog] and [pony] has recorded videos of dozens of local, national and internationally recording artists. This year they made the jump into narrative works as well. They'll be releasing a DVD of their second season with a show at SPACE Gallery in Portland on Friday night. If you can't make it to that show, there'll be a second show at The Oak & The Ax in Biddeford on Saturday. You'll be able to see bands like Jacob & The House Of Fire, D. Gross, Wesley Allen Hartley and the Traveling Trees and Greg Jaime. The DVD features local favorites like the above-mentioned Jacob & The House Of Fire, Lady Lamb The Beekeeper, Moses Atwood and Jakob Battick & Friends. Full disclosure: This producer is one of the founders of [dog] and [pony]. Extra full disclosure: These shows are going to be AWESOME!
