Early Leno show to get DVD release Posted: 08 Jun 2010 08:09 PM PDT SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 8 (UPI) -- Xenon Pictures has announced plans to release a DVD called "The 1984 Los Angeles Comedy Competition with Host Jay Leno." The company described the video, which is to be released July 13, as Leno's first stand-up comedy special. From producer Leigh Savidge, the DVD shows Leno emceeing a show featuring competing stand-up comics Ray Combs, Howie Gold, Jeff Gerbino and Steve Oedekerk -- performing in front of a live crowd and a panel of celebrity judges that includes Fred Willard. "I filmed Jay's live comedy club act in the 1980s when he was a cutting-edge comedian with great material," Savidge said in a statement Tuesday. "Soon after, Jay decided he didn't want his act overexposed on cable TV so I got steam-rolled over by the Leno machine. I was probably one of the first guys to get 'Lenoed.'" Savidge claims Leno did whatever he could to stop the release of the taped version of the show, an act he lampoons in the popular YouTube video "I Got Lenoed." |
